Class III and Open Bite malocclusion always post a challenge for orthodontists. Nevertheless after using Tip-Edge brackets on canines like in Simplified Straight-Wire Technique (SSW), many difficult clinical cases can be solved. The same undesirable effects caused by straight-wire archwire slots in Class II malocclusion may start appearing in Class III and will even increase in open bite malocclusion.
The Class III and Open Bite malocclusion treatments are grounded in three characteristics of Simplified Straight-wire technique:
1. Tip edge the canine bracket.
2. The .016″ Bow Flex wire or Australian Wire
3. Narrow brackets
These characteristics permit anterior and posterior teeth movement without archwire deflection and working with very low friction and physiologic forces.
